Team Description
Pidstryhach Institute for Applied Problems of Mechanics and Mathematics (UKRAINE) http://www.iapmm.lviv.ua
The Institute was founded within National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 1978 by academician Ya.S. Pidstryhach. For the time being 249 employees work at the Institute (25 of them are Doctors and 105 are Cd.Sc.). It is one of the most important institutions of mechanical-mathematical profile in the Ukraine. The team members work at the Institute department, the research priorities of which are: modern analytical and numerical methods for calculation, optimization, and prediction of deformability, durability and mechanical behaviour of discrete-continuous structure systems under complex external action; fundamentals of fracture mechanics and contact phenomena; study of surface phenomena mechanics, bodies with coatings and composite structures.
The team consists of 7 members: Prof., Dr.Sc. Mykhas’kiv V.V. -team leader, 3 senior scientists (Dr.Sc. Kunets Ya. I., Cd.Sc. Stankevych V.Z. and Cd.Sc. Khay O.M.) and 3 scientists. Four members of the team are young scientists under 35 years old, 2 members are women. The team leader is the author of 72 articles (32 articles are published in English in well-known International Journals), he is on the final stage of preparing the monograph “Boundary Integral Equations Method for 3D Dynamic Problems of Crack and Thin Inclusion Theory”, supervises the research of three young scientists, involved in the project, on their way to obtain Cd.Sc. The participating senior scientists work in the team leader group at the Institute, what guarantees the effective division of project work. The local computational infrastructure is created at the Institute on the base of team with previous successful function within different International and National scientific programs, namely International Science Foundation (ISF) program (1993-1997), Science and Technology Centre in Ukraine (STCU) program (2003-2005), Ukrainian Fundamental Development Foundation (UFDF) program (1998-2005). Also the team leader within German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) program had a study visit in Germany (2004), where the collaborative investigations with the coordinator of this proposal concerning the BIEM-BEM for the micromechanical analysis of elastodynamic processes were started with several common papers as a result.
The areas of team expertise according to the project tasks are:
•Mathematical modeling of interphases and contact imperfections in 3D composite solids;
•BIEM-BEM for the nonstationary and time-harmonic wave scattering by inclusions with complicated interfacial conditions;
•BIEM-BEM for the dynamic multiple crack-inclusion interaction problems;
•Dynamic stress concentration and stress intensity factors in 3-D damaged particulate composites;
•Dynamic stress concentration and stress intensity factors in 3-D damaged layered composites;

•Software design and testing.
