Team Description
Institute for Mathematics, Mechanics and Informatics at Kuban State University (RUSSIA) http://www.kubsu.ru
Kuban State University is an education and scientific centre of the fast-developing Kuban region (named after the Kuban river basin) at the south of Russia. It is one of the 10-top Russian classical universities. In accordance with the spirit of the so-called South-Russian school of mechanics and mathematics, the research work at the Institute is featured by a strong analytical background. The project team is a part of the wave dynamics group having developed a meshless integral equation technique that proved its high efficiency in application to geophysics, seismic prospecting, non-destructive testing, solid electronics and others. This group is generally supervised by academician V.A.Babeshko, who is the only mechanician - real member of the Russian Academy of Science in the region (i.e. out of the capitals and Academy Centres).
The team consists of 5 members:
Evgeny Glushkov, Prof., Dr.Sc., the team leader, deals with the elaboration and computer implementation of the analytically-based approaches mentioned above. He is the author of a monograph (the main Russian scientific publisher "Nauka") and more than 50 articles in central Russian and well-recognized international journals. As a leader or principal researcher, he took part in applied government projects as well as won scientific grants from RFBR, ISF, NWO, DFG, the Royal Society, CRDF and other foundations. In 2002, his activity (within a team headed by academician Babeshko) was appreciated by the State Prize (the highest Russian annual award in science and technology).
Natalia Glushkova, Dr.Sc., senior scientist, works together with E.Glushkov; the most part of their results are obtained and published jointly. Her Dr. Sc. (habilitation) thesis is devoted to the dynamics of multilayered structures with defects and stress concentration at 3D polyhedral corners, which is well-adjust with the project tasks.
Three young scientists (under 35 years old) are PhD students, whose present activity is also in good agreement with the researches proposed. Michael Golub studies the trapped mode effects in elastic waveguides with cracks. As a result, real resonance frequencies (spectral points) have been discovered here for the first time. The associated eigensolutions describe wave energy localization near the crack with a sharp stress intensity growth at the edges. Sergey Fomenko develops the method of laminate fundamental solutions, which, being a mesh-free approach, accounts explicitly for the interface boundary conditions in layered structures. Oleg Kvasha has developed a fine computer model for travelling modes excitation by piezo-ceramic actuators. The invented method of integral equations reduction to stable algebraic systems seems to be well suitable for studying project's structures with multiple interface imperfections.
